From August 19 to 21, Stephen Harper, George Bush, Mexican President Felipe Calderón and 30 corporate CEOs from Canada, Mexico and the US will meet in Montebello, Quebec, where they will continue to hammer out the so-called Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) or deep integration - behind closed doors!

Intentionally bypassing parliamentary oversight and public debate, These “leaders” are working by stealth to create a continental energy-resource pact (including water), and a North American security perimeter. They are also deciding policies that will have serious consequences for our environment and for our health.

The SPP:

commits Canada and Mexico to the Bush Administration’s
so-called “War on Terror” and increased militarization;
accelerates the privatization of public services such as health care, and education; lowers national standards and regulations in over 300 areas, from environmental protection and pesticide use to food safety and water exports;victimizes immigrants, refugees, and non-status individuals.

We call on you to raise your voices and denounce this undemocratic partnership! The Outaouais-Ottawa Stop the SPP Committee is planning diverse activities to publicly oppose the Montebello Summit. Please bring your creative and peaceful talents to make your voices heard! Join up, mobilize, inform, participate and organize for the Days of Action to Stop the SPP.

People in the Outaouais and Ottawa region are working hard to find accommodations and coordinate various activities for all that will take place from August 18-22.

The details of activities are still to be worked out.

Work is underway for:a Sunday afternoon demonstration in Ottawa (location TBA);
a mass convergence in Montebello for the entire period, so bring your food, tents and sleeping bags!
a Bike Caravan going from Ottawa to Montebello to join up with
other Caravans coming from Montreal, Toronto, and elsewhere;
a massive day of mobilization protesting the SPP in Montebello
