Taxi to the Dark Side

An in-depth look at the torture practices of the United States in Afghanistan, Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, focusing on an innocent taxi driver in Afghanistan who was tortured and killed in 2002.    Intermingling documents and records of this incident with candid testimony from eyewitnesses and participants, the film uncovers an inescapable link between the tragic incidents that unfolded in Bagram and the policies made at the very highest level of the United States government in Washington, D.C.

This documentary was directed by Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) and won the 2007 Oscar as best documentary feature.  It was filmed as part of the WHY DEMOCRACY series of ten feature length documentaries intended to start a dialog on what the buzz word "democracy" actually means.   The question associated with Taxi to the Dark Side is "Can Terrorism Destroy Democracy?"  Go to the website and join the debate.

Come to the Bytowne Cinema on September 11, 2008, the 7th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Centre to see this outstanding documentary.

Reflect on the decisions made since 9/11/2001 and the actions taken in fighting the so-called war on terror.  Are we safer?  Is Democracy stronger?   Join with others to view a movie that provides a context for reflection on the last seven years.
